Trekking tour in Western Tian Shan, Uzbekistan – 6 days
Explore the picturesque lush green mountain valleys, enjoy the panoramic view of mountains from the top of Great Chimgan peak and meet incredibly friendly shepherds during this 6 days trekking tour in Western Tien Shan mountains of Uzbekistan. The tour starts from the village of Gidjal located at 1,5 hours drive from Tashkent and ends in Beldersay Ski Resort crossing in total 74 km distance in 6 days. The highest point in the trek is the Great Chimgan summit which is 3 309 m above sea level. Throughout the trek, you will enjoy different landscapes as the route passes through meadows, orchards, and bare high mountain plains. This trek is suitable for experienced participants.

Quick Itinerary
Day 1 – Tashkent – Gidjal village – Aksakata valley (15 km/7 hours)
At 9:00 be picked up by our driver and guide from your hotel in Tashkent and drive to the trek start point in Gidjal village (65km / 1, 5 hours). Start ascending on the ridgeline having Aksakata River on our left and eventually reach the height of 1400m. From the ridge descent to Aksakata valley. Stop for lunch near the junction of the Aksakata and Nurekata rivers. After lunch, continue heading up through Aksakata and reach the camping area near the junction of Aksakata and Kashkasuv Rivers.

Day 2 – Aksakata River valley (16 km/8 hours)
Continue walking along the valley of the Aksakata River. There are many mountain springs and different types of trees along the trail. Barberry and dog-rose bushes grow on the river banks. Heading up along the river bed, you will pass a nice waterfall and shepherd’s summer hut.

Day 3 – Aksakata Pass (10 km/6 hours)
Get back from the camp to the main trek and continue ascending in the valley reaching Aksakata Pass at 2200m. Continue uphill on the ridge and get to the height of 2300m before descending to the next valley. Ascend through the valley eventually reaching High Karangur at 2700m. Cross to the other side into the next valley and continue to the camping area at Karangursay River.

Day 4 – Mingjilki Ridge (10 km/4 hours)
From the camp head back to the Mingjilki Ridge and continue to the north getting closer to Great Chimgan. Walk to the sources of Karaarcha River then head on the ridge towards Takhta Pass (2620m). The trek opens up panoramic views of Chirchik valley and surrounding mountains. You will also have occasional views of Pulatkhan Plateau to the east. Reach the camping area near Takhta Pass.

Day 5 – Great Chimgan Peak summit (10 km/ 7 hours)
Start from the camp heading up along the ridge towards Great Chimgan peak (3 309m). The summit can be reached in about 3 hours and opens great views of the Charvak Reservoir and distant mountain ranges of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Spending some time for observation on the summit, descent back to Takhta Pass for lunch. After lunch continue generally to the west towards todays’ camping area on Kumbil Pass (2350m)

Day 6 – Beldersey Valley to Charvak reservoir (13 km/ 5 hours)
From the camp on Kumbil Pass continue on the trail that gradually descends to Chet Kumbel Pass (1 880). The pass separates Beldersay and Nurekata valleys. You will then continue heading down in Beldersay valley towards the ski resort. Meet by our driver at Beldersay ski resort and be transferred via Chavak Reservoir to Tashkent. Day 1 - Tashkent-Aksak Ata valley
At 9:00 be picked up by our guide and driver from your hotel in Tashkent and drive to the trek starting point (65km, 1.5 hours by vehicle). Gradually ascending the ridgeline and crossing over to the adjacent valley, the route reaches 1400m before dropping down to 1100m for lunch which is close to the junction of the Aksakata and Nurekata Rivers. Fresh drinking water is near a homestead across the Aksakata via a bridge. 2 hours 50 minutes from the start.
After lunch cross back over the Aksakata River. The route gradually ascends following a dirt road accessible by vehicles to a bridge back over the Aksakata. The route continues upstream for a further 30 minutes to a campsite amidst trees near the river. The camp is close to the junction of the Aksakata and Kashkasu Rivers.

Day 2 - Aksak Ata valley
Continue walking along the valley of Aksakata River where there is lovely scenery and a couple of small streams for freshwater. Approximately 2 hours from camp there is a 50m length of the path that is narrow with loose ground and slopes outwards over a rocky drop. We will avoid this path by back-tracking and using an alternative path located lower down near the river.
You will then continue along the trail which heads up along the riverbed of Aksakata River, passing shepherds’ summer huts and a nice waterfall. There are barberry and dog-rose bushes on the river banks, and fruit trees are found on the way. The camping area is near the spring on 1 or 2 level terraces, depending on group size, adequate water supply nearby.

Day 3 - Aksakata Pass
You start your day from your camp and head onto the main track to continue to head uphill reaching Aksakata Pass 2200m in about 1 hour. There are great views of distant peaks and the Plateau Pulatkhan. Continue along this main ridge, generally north reaching approximately 2350m before dropping down to 2100m in the next valley and then following a stream uphill to lunch at 2250m.
The route continues uphill eventually reaching High Karangur at about 2700m and you will get your first glimpses of the summit of Big Chimgan. Now drop down the other side into a narrow valley and head up to the camping areas at Karaungursay. There are plenty of small streams for your water supply, these are the sources of the Karaungursay.

Day 4 - Karaungursay
From the camp, head back up to the main Mingjilki Ridge heading ever closer to Big Chimgan, with occasional views over to the Plateau Pulatkhan. Walking towards the source of the Karaarcha River and continuing on via the Takhta Pass (2620m). The route threads its way up, down, and around the high points of the ridge reaching over 2800m before dropping down to lunch and tonight’s camp, close to the Takhta Pass.
En route, you will pass through many shepherds’ summer camps, and throughout the day there are panoramic views of the mountains and the Chirchik Valley.

Day 5 - Big Chimgan Peak
Big Chimgan Peak summit day. Today is the most challenging day as the trek reaches its highest point with the summiting of Big Chimgan peak (3309m) before descending to the Beldersey River. Big Chimgan is the highest peak in the area and offers fantastic panoramic views.
You begin walking from your camp at Takhta Pass head up along the ridge, walking around subsidiary peaks of the massif, eventually emerging on the northeast side of the mountain with the ‘steel tripod’ on the summit ridge and the main summit now in view. There are great views of the Charvak Reservoir and of the neighboring towns and distant mountain ranges of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Reaching the actual summit peak from the tripod requires the team to ascend some broken terrain that is exposed in places. The summit can be reached in approximately 3 hours, with about 1 and a half hours for the descent back down to the pass, and lunch, before continuing the descent down to the Beldersey river.
Heading down from the pass, follow the stream all the way down until you meet another ridge, head up past the shepherd’s tent and continue up the ridge, the last major ascent of the expedition. Near the top, we will see some ancient Petroglyphs. Your camp for this evening is on the Kumbil Pass (2350m)

Day 6 - Beldersay valley – Charvak reservoir - Tashkent
Descend to the ski resort of Beldersey and from there transfer by vehicle to the Charvak reservoir. Starting along this long and winding ridge the route gradually descends to 1880m at Chet Kumbel Pass, a small pass separating the Nurekata and Beldersay River Valleys. You continue to descend to the skiing resort of Beldersay. From here you will transfer to Charvak high-mountain reservoir and then on to Tashkent (120 km, 2 hrs).

Mountain Guide
Your mountain guide is a leader of a group and a representative of our company on the program. Therefore the guide reserves the right to change the route of the trekking in the program due to known safety issues and bad weather conditions. It is the responsibility of the guide to act as a cook for the groups smaller than 5 people.
Recommended personal equipment/belongings
All the food, kitchen and camping equipment provided by our company will be transported by animals. The maximum allowed luggage weight is 13kg per person. We advise the participants to have below equipment and wear for the program:

The meeting point for this group tour is the parking lot of Uzbekistan Hotel (east of Amir Temur square, 41°18’39.0″N 69°16’57.0″E). You will be met by our mountain guide and the driver at the meeting point, our guide will be wearing clothing with Responsible Travel logo. Please make sure to arrive at 8:30 as our minibus starts in the mountains at 9:00.
